Finding The Right Treatment For ADHD
|
Finding The Right Treatment For ADHD There is no right way to treat ADHD, in fact many times the correct treatment plan for your child requires a combinations of a few different methods. Each child that suffers with the symptoms of ADHD will need to find the combination that works for him or her, there is not a one size fits all answer. Most of the symptoms are the same but they tend to differ in their severity, so each type of treatments tends to target those trouble areas. Many people are finding that a combination of conventional medicines, behavioral modification and essential oils can really reduce the symptoms. Conventional medicines Whenever someone is diagnosed with something people automatically think that there must be a pill out there to fix it. The type of medicine that will be used will be customized according to how the ADHD actually affects that individual. Each person has a different way that they are affected, for instance some people will have a different way of learning, they may need to learn by having something read to them versus reading it themselves. All these different variants are taken into account before medicine is prescribed. The problem with conventional medicines is there are always side effects, some have relatively few but there are some drugs that have quite a few. Make sure that you work with your doctor so if you determine that drugs need to be used you can get the proper drug and dosage. Behavior Modifications Many parents have found that behavior modification techniques can be quite successful. What this does is helps your child learn the proper behavior in every situation by positively reinforcing good behavior. This technique works extremely well and gives your child positive ways to deal with anger and frustration. Some parents have found that once they have a good system in place they are able to lessen the amounts of conventional medicines that their child needs to take. Natural Essential Oils This is a more natural way to help with symptoms of ADHD, everyone knows that moods can be affected by scents and this is what this technique does. The best-known essential oils for ADHD are lavender and orange oil. Both oils have a calming and soothing affect on the brain. It is recommend that you add a few drops to a nightly bath, or you can make a potpourri sash to hang in their room. The oil has been shown to relax the mind and enhance your moods. Most parents have found that a strong combination of these techniques tends to help control the symptoms of ADHD. Do some research or talk with other parents of ADHD children and you will find lots of tips and techniques that you can use to help alleviate the stress that can be associated with ADHD. One of growing trends is that many parents are trying to wean their children off the medications in favor of more natural treatments. Less medication is always better when it can be done, but always discuss any changes in their medication with your doctor. |
